Identification & Behavior: ~13 cm (5.1 in). The Sulphur-bellied Tyrant-Manakin has olive upperparts with an olive-gray head and a semi-concealed yellow crest. The throat and breast are olive grading to yellow towards the rest of the underparts. The iris is pale. It forages in the understory and midstory of forest with nutrient-poor soils such as black water semi-flooded scrubby woods and similar habitats. It is very similar to the Saffron-crested Tyrant-Manakin, but their ranges are not known to overlap.

Status: The Sulphur-bellied Tyrant-Manakin is uncommon in the understory of seasonally flooded forests particularly in viny yet clear under and midstory. It is also often associated with bamboo. It occurs in two disjunct populations south and northeast Peru ranging up to 700 m along the foothill of the Andes. The Sulphur-bellied Tyrant-Manakin also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Saltarín-Tirano de Vientre Azufrado.

Sub-species: Sulphur-bellied Tyrant-Manakin (Neopelma sulphureiventer), (Hellmayr), 1903.

Meaning of Name: Neopelma: Gr. neos= new, different and pelma, pelmatos= sole of the foot. sulphureiventer: L. sulphureus, sulphurous= sulphur, sulphuris and venter, ventris= belly.
