Identification & Behavior: ~20.5 cm (8 in). The Pale-billed Antpitta has a brown back, blackish head, and striking ivory bill.  The underparts are gray.  It appears to be associated with bamboo thickets. The only other large Antpitta with uniform gray underparts is the Chestnut-naped Antpitta, which has a dark bill and chestnut cap and nape. These two antpittas are not known to overlap.

Status: Endemic. The Pale-billed Antpitta is fairly common in the humid montane forest of extreme northeast Peru where it is found only on the south and east side of the upper Marañon River. It ranges at elevations between 2300 – 3900 m.

Name in Spanish: Tororoi de Pico Pálido.

Sub-species: Pale-billed Antpitta (Grallaria carrikeri) Schulenberg and Williams, 1982.

Meaning of Name: Grallaria: L. grallarius, grallae= one walking on stilts. carrikeri: named in honor of United States biologist M. R. Carriker.
