Identification & Behavior: ~80 cm (31 in). The Brown Booby is all dark brown with a contrasting white belly and underwing lining. Juveniles are all dark with grayish underparts and underwing lining. Also, see juvenile Blue-footed Booby.

Status: The Brown Booby has been sighted multiple times in the warm ocean waters off the coast of northern Peru. It has been photographed on the Isla Huampanú, Región de Lima, Isla Foca, Región de Piura, and the Islas Lobos de Afuera, Región de Lambayeque. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Ch.

Sub-species: Brown Booby (Sula leucogaster etesiaca) Boddaert, 1783.

Meaning of Name:  Sula: Is a Norwegian name for a gannet or booby. leucogaster: L. leuco=white, pale, gaster= stomach or belly.  A booby with a white belly.
