Identification & Behavior: ~13.5 cm (5.2 in). The Tumbes Swallow has glossy blue upperparts with a white rump and white loral line. It has some white fringing on the tertials and inner secondary flight feathers. The underparts are white. The tail is squared.  It forages over a variety of habitats generally close to the ground. It is similar to the Blue and White Swallow but is distinguished by a conspicuous white rump and white vent and undertail coverts.

Status: The Tumbes Swallow is uncommon in its restricted range in northwest Peru. It also occurs in Ec.

Name in Spanish: Golondrina de Tumbes.

Sub-species: Tumbes Swallow (Tachycineta stolzmanni), (R. A. Philippi), 1902.

Meaning of Name: Tachycineta: Gr. takhukinetos= moving quickly, fast.
stolzmanni: In honor of Jan Sztolcman (1854-1928) Polish zoologist, collector in tropical America 1875-1883, Conservator of Birds at Zoological Mus., Warsaw.
