Identification & Behavior: ~15.5 cm (6 in). The Parodi’s Hemispingus is yellow-olive above and yellow below. The forehead and sides of the head are dusky with a yellow superciliary. It forages in thick foliage in the understory and mid-canopy of humid montane forests. The Parodi’s Hemispingus is often associated with bamboo.  It is similar to the Oleaginous Hemispingus but is distinguished by a dusky forehead and sides of the head, and yellow superciliary. Status: Endemic. The Parodi’s Hemispingus is common montane forests of the east slope of the southeastern Andes at elevations ranging between 2600-3500 m.

Name in Spanish: Hemispingo de Parodi.

Sub-species: Parodi’s Hemispingus (Kleinothraupis parodii), Weske and Terborgh, 1974.

Meaning of Name: Kleinothraupis: Kleino: In honor of Nedra Kathryn Klein (1951-2001) American ornithologist. Gr. Thraupis= unidentified small bird, perhaps some kind of finch, mentioned by Aristotle. parodii: In honor of José Guillermo Parodi Vargas (1930-2012) Peruvian politician and landowner.

Formerly known as Hemispingus parodii (2017).
