Identification & Behavior: 12 cm (4.7 in). The Sclater’s Tyrannulet has olive back with a grayish head. It has a pale eyebrow and poorly defined eye ring. The wing coverts are dusky with two creamy wing bars. The throat and breast are grayish grading to paler gray towards the rest of the underparts. It has a relatively long tail. It is similar to the Buff-banded Tyrannulet but is distinguished by having pale wing bars.

Status: The Sclater’s Tyrannulet is generally rare, but locally uncommon in montane forests of the east slope of the southern Andes at elevations ranging between 1500-2000 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Moscareta de Sclater.

Sub-species: Sclater’s Tyrannulet (Phyllomyias sclateri subtropicalis), (Chapman), 1919.

Meaning of Name: Phyllomyias: Gr. phullon=  leaf and myias=  flycatcher. sclateri: In honor of Dr. Philip Lutley Sclater (1829-1913) English ornithologist, collector.
