Identification & Behavior: ~36 cm (14.1 in). The Mitred Parakeet has a reduced red forehead and a variable amount of red around the eyes. It also has scattered specks on the head, sides of the neck, breast, and the underparts. The bill is pale. It has no red on the shoulder area.  It has red where the tarsus meets the thigh. The juvenile has a reduced red forehead but lacks the scattered red specks. The Mitred Parakeet is similar to the White-eyed Parakeet but is distinguished by having a red forehead, no red on the shoulders, and red where the tarsus meet the thigh. It is not known to overlap with the similar Scarlet-fronted Parakeet.

Status: The Mitred Parakeet is rare to uncommon in humid forest on the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1600-3400 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Cotorra Mitrada.

(P. m. mitratus), Tschudi, 1844.  C Peru and CE Bolivia.

Meaning of Name: Psittacara: L psitta= para and cara=resembling or look alike. mitratus: L. mitrata, mitratus=  crowned.
