Identification & Behavior: ~18 cm (7 in). The Citron-bellied Attila is mostly rufous with a gray head. The breast is rufous and grades to rufous yellow towards the rest of the underparts. It has a red iris. The bill is dusky or reddish. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of Terra-firme Forest. It is similar to the Cinnamon Attila but is distinguished by a gray head, a reddish bill in some individuals, and by foraging in Terra Firme forest. It is also similar to the rufous morph of the Bright-rumped Attila but is distinguished by a gray head and a reddish bill.

Status: The Citron-bellied Attila is uncommon in Amazonia where it largely restricted to Loreto. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Atila de Vientre Citrino.

Sub-species: Citron-bellied Attila (Attila citriniventris), P. L. Sclater, 1859.

Meaning of Name: Attila: Attila (406-453) ruler of the Hunnish tribes that ravaged Europe in the fifth century, who revealed in the appelation “Scourge of God.” The Attilas were given this epithet because of their aggressive behavior and tyrant flycatcher-like appearance and affinities.
citriniventris: L. citrinus= yellow, citrine and venter, ventris= belly.
