Identification & Behavior: ~8.6 cm (3.3 in). The Ecuadorian Piedtail is green above. The throat is white densely speckled with green. The rest of the underparts are white with green on the sides of the breast and belly. The tail is dusky and white. The bill is black and straight. It is similar to the closely related Peruvian Piedtail but the range of these two piedtails are not known to overlap.

Status: The Ecuadorian Piedtail is uncommon in the understory and shrubbery of montane forest in the northeastern Andes. It ranges at elevations between 800-1200 m. It also occurs in Co, and Ec.

Name in Spanish: Cola-pintada Ecuatoriano.

Sub-species: Ecuadorian Piedtail (Phlogophilus hemileucurus), Gould, 1860.

Meaning of Name: Phlogophilus: Gr. Phlogo= flash of lightning, gleam and philos=  lover. hemileucurus: Gr. Hēmi= half, small, leukos=  white and ouros= tail, tailed.
