Identification & Behavior: ~12 cm (4.7 in). The Yellow-breasted Warbling-Antbird has a black crown bordered by a white (male) or yellowish (female) supercilium. The wing coverts are black with two white wing bars. The throat and most of the underparts are yellow with sparse black streaking on the breast. The flanks are rufous. The female is a dull version of the male. Both sexes have a relatively short tail. It forages in thick foliage at tree falls, forest edges, and stands of Guadua bamboo.  It is similar to the Peruvian Warbling-Antbird but is distinguished by having a yellow throat and rest of the underparts. Also, Striated Antbird.

Status: The Yellow-breasted Antbird is fairly common along the foothills of Huanuco, Pasco, Junin, Cusco, and Madre de Dios. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Hormiguero de Pecho Amarillo.

Sub-species: Yellow-breasted Warbling-Antbird (Hypocnemis subflava subflava), Cabanis, 1873.  Andean foothills in EC Peru (Huánuco S to Cuzco).
(Hypocnemis subflava collinsi), Cherrie, 1916.  S Peru (SE Ucayali, E Cuzco, Madre de Dios, Puno), extreme SW Amazonian Brazil (Acre) and WC Bolivia (Pando, La Paz, W Beni, Cochabamba).

Meaning of Name: Hypocnemis: Gr. Hupo= somewhat and knemis,knemidos= leggings, greaves. subflava: L. sub= beneath, somewhat and flavus= yellow.
