Identification & Behavior: ~13.5 cm (5.3 in). The Slate-throated Redstart has blue-gray head, breast and rest of the upperparts. The throat is blackish. The rest of the underparts are yellow. The tail is gray with white outer tail feathers. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of humid montane forest often with mixed species flocks. It is similar to the closely related Spectacled Redstart but is distinguished by having a blackish throat and no eyerings.

Status: The Slate-throated Redstart is common in montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 700-2600 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Candelita de Garganta Plomiza.

Sub-species: Slate-throated Redstart (Myioborus miniatus subsimilis), J. T. Zimmer, 1949. W Andes in SW Ecuador and NW Peru.

Meaning of Name: Myioborus: Gr. Muia= fly and boros= devouring. miniatus: L. minius= vermilion, miniatus= painted vermilion.
