Identification & Behavior: ~17 cm (6.6 in). The Light-crowned Spinetail has a rufous back and tail. The crown is white bordered by black superciliary. The neck and most of the underparts are gray-brown. It forages in the understory of humid montane forest where it is associated with bamboo thickets. The Light-crowned Spinetail does not geographically overlap with the very similar Marcapata  Spinetail or the Creamy-crested Spinetail.

Status: The Light-crowned Spinetail is restricted to a small range on extreme southeast Peru at elevations ranging between 2750-3200 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Cola-Espina de Corona Pálida.

Sub-species: Light-crowned Spinetail (Cranioleuca albiceps albiceps), d’Orbigny and Lafresnaye, 1837.

Meaning of Name: Cranioleuca: Gr. kranion= skull, head and leukos= white. albiceps: L. albus= white and ceps= head, headed.
