Identification & Behavior: ~10 cm (4 in). The White-breasted Wood-Wren has rufous upperparts with the flight feathers and a short tail barred with black. It has a conspicuous white superciliary and sides of the head streaked with black and white.  The throat and breast are white grading to grayish bordered by rufous flanks. It forages in the forest understory.  It is similar to the Gray-breasted Wood-Wren but is distinguished by having a white throat and breast, and by ranging at lower elevations.

Status: The White-breasted Wood-Wren is uncommon and local. It occurs in the Amazonian lowlands north of the lower Marañon River. Then extends its range along humid montane forest on the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 600-1400 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.

Name in Spanish: Cucarachero de Pecho Blanco.

Sub-species: White-breasted Wood-Wren (Henicorhina leucosticta hauxwelli), C. Chubb, 1920.

Meaning of Name: Henicorhina: Gr., henikos= singular and rhis, rhinos= nostrils. leucosticta: Gr. Leukos= white and stiktos= spotted.
