Identification & Behavior: ~12.5 cm (5 in). The Brown-capped Vireo has greenish-brown upperparts and tail. It has a dark brown cap and broad pale eyebrow. The cheeks, throat, and breast are whitish gray grading to yellow towards the rest of the underparts. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of humid montane forest almost always with mixed species flocks. It behaves like a warbler. The Brown-capped Vireo is smaller than the Red-eyed Vireo and has a brown, not gray cap.

Status: The Brown-capped Vireo is common in montane forests of the east and west (Piura and Cajamarca) slopes of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1100-2600 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Víreo de Gorro Pardo.

Meaning of Name: Vireo : L. virere= to be green; vireo, vireonis= small green bird. leucophrys: Gr. leukos= white and ophruos= eyebrow; leukophrus, leukophruos= white-browed.
