Identification & Behavior: ~83.5 cm (33 in). The Blue and Yellow Macaw is blue above and yellow below. The bill is black. It has well defined black lines on the bare skin on the sides of the head. It is one of the four unmistakable large macaws.

Status: The Blue and Yellow Macaw is uncommon to common and widespread in Amazonia. It is known to range at elevations of up to 800 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Guacamayo Azul y Amarillo.

Sub-species: Blue-and-yellow Macaw (Ara ararauna), Linnaeus, 1758.

Meaning of Name: Ara: Tupi Brazilian Indian, name to designate several parrot species. ararauna:  Tupi Brazilian,  ara= parrot  and rauna= black, dark.
