Identification & Behavior: ~13. 5 cm (5.3 in). The male Yellow-faced Parrotlet has a bright blue rump, underwing coverts, and flight feathers. In both sexes, the forehead, sides of the head, and breast are yellow. The bill is dusky. The tail is short and pointy. It is similar to the Pacific Parrotlet but is distinguished by having a dusky bill and bright yellow face and breast.
Status: Endemic. The Yellow-faced Parrotlet is generally uncommon but can be common in some areas and times of the year. It is restricted to the upper Marañon Drainage at elevations ranging between 600-2000 m.

Sub-species: Yellow-faced Parrotlet (Forpus xanthops), Salvin, 1895.
Meaning of Name: Forpus: Gr. Not explained by probably phoreö= to possess and pous= foot or a special type of foot. xanthops: Gr. Yellow.
