Identification & Behavior: ~10.5 cm (4.1 in). The Pearly-vented Tody-Tyrant has an olive-gray mantle with a gray head. The wing coverts are dusky fringed with yellowish forming two thin wing bars. The underparts are whitish streaked with gray. The iris is pale-brown. The bill is black. It shows a pale loral line. It forages in scrub-like habitats, along forest edges, and second growth. It is similar to the Stripe-necked Tody-Tyrant but is distinguished by having a gray head and whitish underparts.

Status: The Pearly-vented Tody-Tyrant is fairly common but local along the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 600-1600 m. It also occurs in Co, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Tirano-Todi de Vientre Perlado.

Sub-species: Pearly-vented Tody-Tyrant (Hemitriccus margaritaceiventer ruficeps), (Tschudi), 1844.

Meaning of Name: Hemitriccus: Gr. hemi, hemisus= small, half and trikkos= unidentified small bird. margaritaceiventer: L. margarita= pearl, margaritaceus= pearled, pearly, pearlated and venter, ventris= belly.
