Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (7.3 in). The Semicollared Puffbird is heavily streaked, with bright orange and black heavy bill, and a chestnut collar in the nape area. Very similar to closely related White-chested Puffbird, but they replace each other geographically and their ranges are not known to overlap. Also, see Black-streaked Puffbird.

Status: The Semicollared Puffbird is rare to uncommon in the understory of Terra Firme Forest. It occurs on the east side of the Ucayali River. Further south it ranges closer to the foothill of the Andes where it has been recorded at elevations of up to 1250 m. It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Buco Semiacollarado.

Sub-species: Semicollared Puffbird (Malacoptila semicincta) Todd, 1925.

Meaning of Name: Malacoptila: Gr. malakos= soft and ptilon= plumage, feather. semicincta: L. semi= half and cinctus= band, strap.
