Identification & Behavior: ~37 cm (14.5 in). The Turquoise-fronted Parrot is all green with a turquoise forehead and face bordered by a variable amount of yellow. It has a large patch of yellow and some red on the shoulder or carpal area. It has a bright red wing speculum (secondary flight feathers), and a green tail. The plumage pattern on the head is unmistakable but see Yellow-crowned Parrot and Orange-winged Parrot.
Status: The Turquoise-fronted Parrot is a vagrant species in the Peruvian Amazon. It is known from a single documented record in Tambo Blanquillo, southeast Peru.
Name in Spanish: Loro de Cara Azul.
Sub-species: Turquoise-fronted Parrot (Amazona aestiva xanthopteryx), Berlepsch, 1896.
Meaning of Name: Amazona: Fr. In reference or originating in the Amazon River on the Amazon Forest. aestiva: L. aestas, aestatis: summer aestivus= summery.
