Identification & Behavior: ~18.5 cm (7.2 in). The male Reddish-winged Bare-Eye has a black head, underparts, and tail. The mantle is black scaled with white. The wing is mostly rufous. The female is rufous-brown with two broad whitish wing bars and large white spots on the tertial feathers. Both sexes have a broad eye-ring of bright red bare skin, which is more prominent in the male. It forages largely in terra firme forest often following army ants. It is similar to the Black-spotted Bare-Eye but is distinguished by having a black back scaled with white. The female is unique in having two broad whitish wing bars on a rufous-brown plumage.

Status: The Reddish-winged Bare-Eye is generally rare in Amazonia north of the Marañon River and on both sides of the Amazon River. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.
