Identification & Behavior: ~12 cm (5 in). The male Ochre-fronted Antpitta has an ochre forehead and face, with an olive rest of the upperparts. The female has an olive head and rest of the upperparts. The underparts in both sexes are pale with black, white, and brownish streaks.  It is similar to the Peruvian Antpitta, but their ranges do not overlap. Also, see Ochre-breasted Antpitta.

Status: Endemic. The Ochre-fronted Antpitta occurs on the east and south side of the Marañon Valley where it is uncommon in its small geographic range. It inhabits humid montane forest on the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1550 – 2400 m.

Name in Spanish: Tororoi de Frente Ocre.

Sub-species: Ochre-fronted Antpitta (Grallaricula ochraceifrons) Graves, O’Neill and T. A. Parker 1983.

Meaning of Name: Grallaricula:  A diminutive form of the genus Grallaria. ochraceifrons: L. ochre= the color ochre and frons= front, forehead or eyebrow.
