Identification & Behavior: ~17.5 cm (6.8 in). The Chestnut-winged Foliage-gleaner has a gray-brown mantle, rump, and crown, which contrast with the rufous wing and tail. The underparts are buffy-brown. The face and throat are yellow-buff. It has a poorly defined buff supercilium. It forages in the midstory and sub-canopy of the forest in Amazonia. The similar Chestnut-winged Hookbill also has contrasting rufous wings and tail but is distinguished by having a streaked back and underparts.  

Status: The Chestnut-winged Foliage-gleaner is uncommon and widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range up to 1000 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Limpia-Follaje de Ala Castaña.

Sub-species: Chestnut-winged Foliage-gleaner (Philydor erythropterum erythropterum), (P. L. Sclater), 1856.

Meaning of Name: Philydor: Gr. phileo= to love and hudor, hudatos= water. Philudros= water-loving. erythropterum: Gr. eruthros= red and pteros, pteron= wing, winged.
