Identification & Behavior: ~47 cm (18.5 in). The Red-bellied Macaw has a bluish top of the head. The bill is black. It has no lines on the bare sides of the head. The flight feathers are bluish. The color of the underside of the wings and tail is yellowish, which is noticeable in flight. The red area on the lower belly may be difficult to notice. It is one of the three medium-sized macaws. Status: The Red-bellied Macaw is common and widespread in Amazonia where is frequently associated with stands of Mauritia flexuaosa palms. It is known to occur below 650 m of elevation along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Guacamayo de Vientre Rojo.

Sub-species: Red-bellied Macaw (Orthopsittaca manilatus), Boddaert, 1783.

Meaning of Name: Orthopsittaca: Gr. orthos= right and psitta, psittaca, psittakë= parrot. manilatus: L. manus= hand, paw and latus= concave.
