Identification & Behavior: ~13.5 cm (5.2 in). The White-winged Swallow has glossy blue upperparts with a white rump. The secondary flight feathers and part of the tertials are white. The tail is notched.  The underparts are white. It forages over water and edges of bodies of water. It is similar to the White-rumped Swallow but is distinguished by having conspicuous white wings and by not having a white loral line.

Status: The White-winged Swallow is common and widespread in Amazonia. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Golondrina de Ala Blanca.

Sub-species: White-winged Swallow (Tachycineta albiventer), (Boddaert), 1783.

Meaning of Name: Tachycineta: Gr. takhukinetos= moving quickly, fast. albiventer: L. albus= white and venter, ventris= belly.
