Identification & Behavior: ~12.5 cm (5 in). The Foothill Elaenia is mostly yellow olive above. The head is gray with pale lores and short superciliary. It has a semi-concealed pale crown patch. The throat is grayish grading to yellow toward the rest of the underparts. The bill is black. The wing coverts are dusky edged with yellow. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of humid montane forest. It is similar to the Forest Elaenia, which ranges at lower elevations. Status: The Foothill Elaenia is only known from a small area in the Cordillera Vilcabamba. It was first described on the eastern Andes of Ecuador at elevations ranging between 1000-1500 m, and it is likely it occurs in other locations in between. The Foothill Elaenia also occurs in Ec.

Name in Spanish: Fío-Fío Submontano.

Sub-species: Foothill Elaenia (Myiopagis olallai), Coopmans and Krabbe, 2000.

Meaning of Name: Myiopagis: Gr. muia, muias=  fly and pagis=  trap, snare. olallai: In honor of Alfonso Maria Olalla (1899-1971) Ecuadorian professional collector in Amazonia.
