Identification & Behavior: ~38.5 cm (15.1 in). The White-browed Hawk has white underparts, blackish upperparts with streaked sides of the neck and head, and a white eyebrow. The cere and base of the bill are bright orange. The tail is black with a single median broad white band and very narrow white terminal band. It is similar to the White Hawk but is distinguished by the bright orange cere and base of the bill, and black tail with a median white band. It is also similar to the Black-faced Hawk, but their ranges are not known to overlap. Also see, a juvenile Short-tailed Hawk.

Status: The White-browed Hawk is uncommon in Amazonia where it is known to occur only on the south side of the Amazon and Marañon Rivers. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.

Name in Spanish: Gavilán de Ceja Blanca.

Sub-species: White-browed Hawk (Leucopternis kuhli), Bonaparte 1850.

Meaning of Name: Leucopternis: Gr. Leukos= white and pternis= hawk, falcon. kuhli: after the German ornithologist, Dr. Heinrich Kühl (1796-1821).
