Identification & Behavior: ~21 cm (8.2 in). The White-winged Cinclodes has a chestnut mantle and concolor primary wing coverts. It has a white supercilium. The folded wing is dark chestnut showing little contrast between the mantle and wing. It has a broad median white band on the wing. The throated is white. The underparts are a rich brown. It has white tips on the outer tail feathers. It is always associated with edges of fast flowing Andean creeks and rivers. It is similar to the Cream-winged Cinclodes but it shows a white wing band, its association with fast flowing creeks, and the little contrast between the mantle and the wing. 

Status: The White-winged Cinclodes is fairly common on the west slope of the Andes, inter-Andean valleys and east slopes on the southern half of Peru at elevations ranging between 500-1400 m. It also occurs in and Bo and Ch.

Name in Spanish: Churrete de Ala Blanca.

Sub-species: White-winged Cinclodes (Cinclodes atacamensis atacamensis), (R. A. Philippi), 1857.

Meaning of Name: Cinclodes: Gr. kinklos= unknown waterside bird and oides= resembling. atacamensis: Originating from or associated with San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.
