Identification & Behavior: ~12 cm (4.7 in). The Mishana Tyrannulet has a gray-olive mantle and head. The iris is white with a flesh-colored bill. The breast is olive and grades to yellow towards the rest of the underparts. The wing coverts and flight feathers are dusky and margined with yellow creating a patterned wing. It forages in the canopy and sub-canopy of humid montane forest and second growth generally alone. It similar to the Red-billed Tyrannulet and the Slender-footed Tyrannulet but is distinguished by having an olive head and flesh-colored bill.

Status: Endemic. The Mishana Tyrannulet is fairly common but local in humid forests in Amazonia near Iquitos and in the Mayo Valley at elevations of up to 1000 m.

Name in Spanish: Moscareta de Mishana.

Sub-species: Mishana Tyrannulet (Zimmerius villarejoi), Alvarez and Whitney, 2001.

Meaning of Name: Zimmerius: In honor of Dr John Todd Zimmer (1889-1957) US ornithologist, taxonomist. villarejoi: Fr. Avenció Jesús Villarejo Carnero (1910-2000) Spanish/Peruvian missionary, Augustinian priest, explorer in Amazonia.
