Identification & Behavior: ~14.5 cm (5.7 in). The Chestnut-breasted Wren is mostly olive-gray. The sides of the neck, throat and most of the underparts are chestnut with gray flanks. It forages on the ground of humid montane forests. When surprised it perches on fallen logs or large limbs near the ground. It is similar to the Musician Wren but is distinguished by the contrasting chestnut and gray coloration and by ranging at higher elevations.

Status: The Chestnut-breasted Wren is uncommon but widespread in humid montane forests of the east slope of the Andes north and south of the Marañon Valley. It generally ranges at elevations between 800-2700 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Cucarachero de Pecho Castaño.

Meaning of Name: Cyphorhinus: Gr. Kuphos=  hunch, hump and  rhis, rhinos=  nose. thoracicus:. L. thōrax, thōrakos=  breastplate; thoracicus=  pectoral, of the chest .
