Identification & Behavior: ~13 cm (5.1 in). The Bronzy Inca is overall bronzy brown.  The throat, sides of the neck, and breast are whitish heavily speckled with brown. The tail is slightly notched and dusky.  The bill is black and straight. The dark brown plumage may look black in poor light. Large uniformly dark hummingbird. The even larger and brown plumaged Giant Hummingbird occurs at higher elevations and favors dry and open habitats. Also, see the Rainbow Starfrontlet.

Status: The Bronzy Inca is uncommon in montane forests of the east and west (south to Cajamarca) slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 1000-2200 m. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Inca Bronceado.

Sub-species: Bronzy Inca (Coeligena coeligena obscura), Berlepsch and Stolzmann, 1902.

Meaning of Name: Coeligena:  L. coelum or caelum=  heaven and gignere=  to bring forth. Coeligena.
