Identification & Behavior: ~22.3 cm (8.7 in). The Peruvian Diving-Petrel is stocky and nondescript. It has a dark back, pale belly, blue feet, and thick bill. Performs a characteristic running take off from the water and flies with rapid non-stop wingbeats near the surface.
Status: The Peruvian Diving-Petrel shows a variable occurrence along the Peruvian Coast. Can be fairly common, rare, or absence in the same areas throughout a year cycle. It also occurs in Ch.

Sub-species: Peruvian Diving-Petrel (Pelecanoides garnotii) Lesson, 1828.
