Identification & Behavior: ~21.5 cm (8.4 in). The White-bellied Parrot has an orange top of the head and back of the neck. The bill is pale. The upperparts are green. The sides of the head, thighs, and vent areas are yellow.  The tail is relatively short, green, and square. It is similar to the Black-headed Parrot but is distinguished by the orange in the top of the head and back of the neck and pale bill.  The range of these two parrots is separated by the Amazon and Ucayali Rivers.

Status: The White-bellied Parrot is fairly common in Amazonia where it ranges on the south side of the Amazon River and east side of the Ucayali River. It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Loro de Vientre Blanco.

Sub-species: White-bellied Parrot (Pionites leucogaster xanthomerius), P. L. Sclater, 1858.

Meaning of Name: Pionites: Gr related to the genus Pionus. leucogaster: Gr. leukos= white; and gaster= stomach.
