Identification & Behavior: ~16 cm (6.2 in). The Plain-crowned Spinetail has a rufous folded wing and tail. The mantle and head are grayish. The throat has a variable amount of whitish and grades to a grayish breast and belly. It forages in the understory of fairly young second growth and forest edges. It is similar to the Dark-breasted Spinetail but is distinguished by having a grayish head without a rufous crown.

Status: The Plain-crowned Spinetail is common and widespread in Amazonia ranging to elevations of up to 1300 m along the east slope of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Cola-Espina de Corona Parda.

Meaning of Name: Synallaxis: Gr. sunallaxeos, sunallaxis = exchang. gujanensis: Originating or associated with Guyana, country in South America.
