Identification & Behavior: ~9.5 cm (3.7 in). The male White-cheeked Tody-Flycatcher has a greenish mantle, black nape, and rufous crown. The underparts and cheeks are white. The underparts and tail are black with yellowish markings on the middle back forming a “V”.  The iris is dark. The bill is bicolored. It forages in the understory of the forest in Amazonia where it is associated with patches of Guadua bamboo. The female has yellow-green upperparts with a rufous crown and gray sides of the head and breast. The female is very similar to a female Black and White Tody-Flycatcher but their ranges do not overlap.

Status: The White-cheeked Tody-Flycatcher is uncommon southeastern Peru where it is known to range up to 1050 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Br.

Name in Spanish: Espatulilla de Mejilla Blanca.

Sub-species: White-cheeked Tody-Flycatcher (Poecilotriccus albifacies), (Blake), 1959.

Meaning of Name: Poecilotriccus: Gr. poikilos= variegated and trikkos= unidentified small bird. albifacies: L. albus= white and facies= countenance, appearance.
