Identification & Behavior: ~21 cm (8.2 in). The White-bellied Cinclodes has rufous upperparts with a brown-gray crown. The underparts are snowy white. The wing is dusky with broad white band readily seen when the bird flies. It forages on the ground where and it is almost exclusively associated with high elevation bogs. The plumage and habitat type make the White-bellied Cinclodes unmistakable but see Cream-winged Cinclodes.

Status: Endeminc. The White-bellied Cinclodes is rare and very local, known to occur in only a few locations in the Peruvian Andes at elevations ranging between 4400-5000 m

Name in Spanish: Churrete de Vientre Blanco.

Sub-species: White-bellied Cinclodes (Cinclodes palliatus), (Tschudi), 1844.

Meaning of Name: Cinclodes: Gr. kinklos= unknown waterside bird and oides= resembling. palliatus: L. pallium= cloak, mantle, palliates= cloaked, mantled.
