Identification & Behavior: ~14 cm (5.5 in). The Three-striped Hemispingus is brownish-gray above and buffy below. The head is black with white superciliary and median stripe from the forehead. It forages in the canopy of humid forest and humid scrub, generally in the company of mixed-species flocks. It is similar to a Black-capped Hemispingus but is distinguished by smaller size, a median brown stripe on the head, by foraging in the canopy, and by ranging at higher elevations. Status: The Three-striped Hemispingus is uncommon in humid montane forests and scrub of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 3000-3650 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Name in Spanish: Hemispingo Trirrayado.

Sub-species: Three-striped Hemispingus (Microspingus trifasciatus), (Taczanowski), 1874.

Meaning of Name: Microspingus: Gr. Mikros= small, spingos= finch. trifasciatus: L. tri= three and fascia= band, fasciatus banded.

Formerly known as Hemispingus trifasciatus (2018).
