Identification & Behavior: ~21 cm (8.2 in). The Dull-capped Attila has rufous-brown upperparts an tail. It has a gray-brown crown. The underparts and the rump are rufous. It has a white iris. The bill is reddish-brown. It forages in the canopy and subcanopy of varzea forests and old second growth. It is similar to the Cinnamon Attila but is distinguished by a gray-brown crown and white iris.

Status: The Dull-capped Attila is uncommon and widespread in Amazonia where it is known to range on the south side of the Amazon and lower Marañon Rivers. It also occurs in Co, Br, and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Atila de Ojo Blanco.

Sub-species: Dull-capped Attila (Attila bolivianus nattereri), Hellmayr, 1902.

Meaning of Name: Attila: Attila (406-453) ruler of the Hunnish tribes that ravaged Europe in the fifth century, who reveled in the appelation “Scourge of God.” The Attilas were given this epithet because of their aggressive behaviour and tyrant flycatcher-like appearance and affinities. bolivianus: From or associated with the country of Bolivia.
