Identification & Behavior: ~14 cm (5.5 in). The Drab Hemispingus has gray upperparts and lighter gray underparts. The iris is pale. It forages in the canopy of humid montane forest almost always in the company of mixed species flocks. The Drab Hemispingus ranges only on the south and east side of the Marañon Valleys and does not overlap with the similar Black-headed Hemispingus.
Status: The Drab Hemispingus is common in humid montane forests of the east slope of the Andes at elevations ranging between 2200-3350 m. It also occurs in Bo.

Meaning of Name: Pseudospingus: Gr. Pseudos= false and spingos= finch. xanthophthalmus: Gr. Xanthos= yellow and ophthalmos= eye.
