Identification & Behavior: ~18 cm (7 in). The Cinnamon-bellied Ground-Tyrant has one of the most distinctive plumages among ground-tyrants. The upperparts are gray. The underparts are lighter gray with extensive cinnamon on the lower belly. The forehead is black next to a rufous crown. It forages in short grass. Its plumage is unmistakable but see Dark-faced Ground-Tyrant.
Status: The Cinnamon Ground-Tyrant is an uncommon to rare Austral migrant to extreme southern Peru. It also occurs in Bo and Ch.
Name in Spanish: Dormilona de Vientre Canela.
Sub-species: Cinnamon-bellied Ground-Tyrant (Muscisaxicola capistratus), (Burmeister), 1860.
Meaning of Name: Muscisaxicola: From the genus Muscicapa Brisson 1760 (flycatcher), and genus Saxicola (wheatear Oenanthe). capistratus: L. capere= to hold, capistratus= haltered.
