Identification & Behavior: ~39.5 cm (15.5 in). The Hudsonian Godwit in basic plumage is all gray with a white belly. In alternate plumage, the underparts are rusty and the back is dusky brown. It has a very long bill, which is pink with a dusky outer half. It is similar to the Marbled Godwit but is distinguished by its gray coloration and by having a white rump and upper tail coverts, and a black tail. Also, see Willet.
Status: The Hudsonian Godwit is an uncommon Boreal migrant to the coast of Peru where is present during the months of September through April. It also occurs in Co, Ec, Br, Bo, and Ch.
Name in Spanish: Aguja de Mar.
Sub-species: Hudsonian Godwit (Limosa haemastica), Linnaeus 1758.
Meaning of Name: Limosa= L. limosus, limus= mud, muddy. haemastica: Gr. haimatikos, haima= bloody, blood.
