Identification & Behavior: ~22 cm (8.6 in). The Canary-winged Parakeet (aka, White-winged Parakeet) has a conspicuous yellow and white area in the wing. The bill is brownish. The tail is relatively long and pointy. It is often seen in noisy flocks where it appears to favors floodplain forest of major Amazonian rivers. It is similar to the Cobalt-winged Parakeet and Tui Parakeet but is readily distinguished by its versicolored wings.
Status: The Canary-winged Parakeet is common to fairly common along major Amazonian rivers and floodplain forests. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.
Name in Spanish: Perico de Ala Amarilla.
Sub-species: Canary-winged Parakeet (Brotogeris versicolurus), Statius Müller, 1776.
Meaning of Name: Brotogeris: Gr. Brotogërus= with a human voice. versicolurus: L. of several colors.
