Identification & Behavior: ~17 cm (6.6 in). The Streak-fronted Thornbird has rufous-brown back. The neck and head are grayish. The tail and rump are rufous. The forehead is finely streaked with whitish. The underparts are mostly pale brown with rufous flanks. It forages in pairs or small groups in Andean scrub. It superficially resembles the Creamy-breasted Canastero but is distinguished by larger size, lack of rufous on the chin, a finely streaked forehead, and a mostly rufous tail.
Status: The Streak-fronted Thornbird is uncommon to rare and local in inter Andean valleys at elevations ranging between 2900-4150m. It also occurs in Bo.
Name in Spanish: Espinero de Frente Rayada.
Sub-species: Streak-fronted Thornbird (Phacellodomus striaticeps griseipectus), Chapman, 1919.
Meaning of Name: Phacellodomus. Gr phakellos= bundle of twigs, domos= house. striaticeps: L. stria= furrow, striatus= striated and ceps, caput, capitis= capped, head.
