Status: The Lafresnaye’s Piculet occurs on the north side of the Amazon/Marañon, and west side of the Ucayali Rivers. It favors the forest canopy of Amazonian forests. It is known to range up to 1200 m along the foothill of the Andes. It also occurs in Co, Ec, and Br.
Name in Spanish: Carpinterito de Lafresnaye.

Meaning of Name: Picumnus: Fr. Picumne, Piculet= little woodpecker. lafresnayi= after the French ornithologist Noël Frédéric Armand André Baron Lafresnaye.
