Identification & Behavior: ~48.5 cm (19 in). The Pale-winged Trumpeter is black with some iridescent feathers and broad and round white area on the back. It is an unmistakable fowl-like that walks on the forest floor in flocks of 4-7 individuals. It is very similar to the Gray-winged  Trumpeter, but their geographical ranges do not overlap. It is highly territorial.

Status: The Pale-winged Trumpeter occurs only on the south side of the Amazon River where it is uncommon in protected areas and areas away from human settlements not subject to subsistence hunting. It also occurs in Br and Bo.

Name in Spanish: Trompetero de Ala Blanca.

Sub-species: Pale-winged Trumpeter (Psophia leucoptera) Spix, 1825.

Meaning of Name:  Psophia: Gr. psophos=noise, one that makes loud noises. leucoptera: L. leukos=white, and pteros= wing. Refers to a bird that makes loud noises and has white wings.
